We are a local not for profit group who look after the Rivers of Sheffield and the associated wildlife - primarily the river Don, Sheaf and Loxley. We formed in 2009 as a local branch of the Wild Trout Trust's "Trout in the Town" project (www.wildtrout.org). We run regular clean up events, engage in habitat works to protect and improve the diversity of all wildlife in the river corridor - including plants, birds, bats, invertebrates and fish. We also undertake monthly surveys of the aquatic invertebrate life using the Riverfly Partnership "Angler's monitoring initiative" methodology.
With the help of the Wild Trout Trust and the Angling Development board, we have developed educational and coaching programs that local schools and community groups can adopt. SPRITE also includes a free membership angling club for those members who are interested in responsible angling and informal mentoring is a valuable complement to our "official" coaching capabilities. Our constitution means that no dividends can be paid to shareholders - and any surplus funds remaining after costs must be re-invested into community or environmental projects by law.
